Wildlife advocate: Vote Catherine Miranda for state Senate

Incumbent LD 11 senator seeking reelection

Posted

OPINION — Arizonans saw countless attacks on our state’s beautiful wildlife this year in Phoenix. Bills designed to weaken protections for native wildlife, decimate Mexican gray wolves and prioritize cruel management practices over scientifically backed ones were on the table this year.

As we approach Election Day on Nov. 3, it is critical that we pay attention to which lawmakers failed to stand against animal cruelty. With the release of Humane World Action Fund’s 2026 Arizona Humane Scorecard, one thing is clear — state Sen. Catherine Miranda  of Legislative District 11 stands with Arizonans and their animals.

Sen. Miranda scored 100% on the 2026 Arizona Humane Scorecard thanks to her record of opposing bad bills and supporting common-sense animal protection measures. In addition to voting against harmful wildlife bills, she voted in favor of a bill, passed into law, to designate threats to harm family pets to the definition of coercive control, strengthening protections for survivors and their companions. She also supported the ongoing effort to end the sale of new animal-tested cosmetics.

Sen. Miranda continues to prove her commitment to making life better for Arizonans, our companion animals, and our native wildlife. I encourage voters to review the 2026 Arizona Humane Scorecard before casting their ballot this fall, and to reelect candidates like Catherine Miranda, who stand against all forms of cruelty.

Briana Romero is Arizona state director of nonprofit Humane World for Animals, formerly the Humane Society of the United States. State Sen. Catherine Miranda is seeking reelection in Legislative District 11, which includes South Phoenix and a portion of West Tempe.
