Tempe to open new pickleball courts

Posted

Grab your paddle, swing by for refreshments and join the Tempe pickleball community as they celebrate new courts at the Tempe Sports Complex.

Courts will be closed April 6-24 as we wrap up construction and resurface all 16 courts. Following the grand opening, the courts will be open daily with extended summer hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The event is on Friday, April 24, from 5-7 p.m. at the Tempe Sports Complex, 401 S. Hardy Drive. Free to attend and all are welcome!

The eight existing pickleball courts at Tempe Sports Complex opened in 2019 and were the first ADA-accessible courts in the state. The courts are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis outside of scheduled classes.

The new courts are made possible through the Parks Capital Improvement Program, which is investing more than $60 million into Tempe parks over the next five years. This amenity expansion reflects community feedback gathered during the Tempe Parks and Recreation Master Plan update, which identified the need for additional courts.
