Tempe residents divert tons of waste from landfills

Tempe’s most recent Zero Waste Day kept more than 64,000 pounds of appliances, building materials and more from landfills, city officials said.

Some highlights include 11,276 pounds of electronic waste, 12,097 pounds of household waste, 2,400 pounds of appliances and 4,000 pounds of building materials.

In addition, an estimated 500 pounds of pet supply donations were brought to the January event that was open to Tempe and Guadalup residents. 

The next Zero Waste Day  is Saturday, April 27, at Kiwanis Park.
