Tempe police arrest sexual assault and kidnapping suspect

Posted

Tempe Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 31.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., a man reportedly approached a woman near Dorsey Lane and 8th Street, where he allegedly forced the woman into his SUV at gunpoint and drove her to an unknown location, where the sexual assault occurred. The suspect later dropped the victim off near McClintock and University Drives.

Following an extensive investigation, detectives identified Mach Kim as the suspect involved in the incident. With the assistance of our Real Time Operations Center (RTOC), investigators were able to identify and locate a vehicle believed to be connected to the crime, described as a newer-model white Dodge Ram.

On Nov. 5, detectives arrested Kim. Following the arrest, search warrants were executed at the suspect's SUV and home, where investigators located evidence believed to be associated with the crime.

Kim was booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, sexual assault, and sexual abuse.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. We are releasing Kim's booking photograph and asking anyone who may recognize him or believe they may have had an encounter with him to contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311.
