Tempe gathering supplies for food, hygiene drive

Drive-thru event on April 2

Posted

Gather up non-perishable food, feminine hygiene supplies and pet food for an easy, drive-thru event April 2 organized by Tempe Neighborhoods Together.

The event supports the Tempe Community Action Agency, Aris Foundation, Lost Our Home and Women4Women.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. in the Pyle Adult Recreation Center parking lot, located at 655 E. Southern Ave.

TNT organized the event in partnership with the city of Tempe to address concerns about food insecurity in our community.

“People should not have to worry about food. The impact of the coronavirus has made things worse. Heavy demands on our partner agencies have diminished supplies quickly,” said Judy Tapscott, a member of TNT’s food drive planning committee. “Tempe neighbors can make a big impact, and this is an easy way to do it.”

Thanks to generous residents, last year’s drive brought in 4,100 pounds of food and pet food, and 6,000 feminine hygiene items, as well as $700 in monetary donations.

“Currently, Tempe Community Action Agency serves one out of every seven people in Tempe and provides over 34,400 food boxes and/or nutritious meals,” said Deb Bacorn, TCAA’s community engagement supervisor. “Through the support of Tempe Neighborhoods Together, TCAA received over 3,100 pounds of food in the fall. We are extremely grateful for the community support and look forward to the April food drive."
