Climb into a fire truck. Try on firefighter gear. Grab a fire hose. Then watch Tempe firefighters put out a live fire and use the "Jaws of Life" to cut into a vehicle.
Hands-On with Tempe Fire Medical Rescue is a free, family-friendly event Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Tempe Fire Training Center, 1340 E. University Drive. Kids and adults can explore a fire truck, ambulance and ladder truck and get an up-close look at the equipment firefighters use every day.
Live fire demonstrations are at 10 and 11 a.m., followed by a Jaws of Life vehicle rescue demonstration at 11:30 a.m.
Free and open to the public. Bring the kids and come spend the morning with Tempe Fire.
Tempe firefighters will also be there to answer questions about the job, the cadet program and the hiring process. Tempe plans to open applications in January to fill vacant firefighter positions.
