Tempe Mayor Corey Woods will be the host of the second World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Saturday.
The event, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. June 10, will take place at Friendship Village, 2645 E. Southern Ave., and feature fraud investigators, victims of family members and community leaders.
They will share “sobering facts about the prevalence of elder abuse and financial exploitation in our society today,” event organizers said in a release.
Elder abuse is growing across Arizona and the nation, and for every one incident of abuse reported, authorities estimate 44 cases remain undetected, according to the release.
Ninety percent of the perpetrators are family members, the release added.
Registration is required due to limited seating.
