City of Tempe
Jennifer Adams
Posted
Tempe Councilmember Jennifer Adams is the new chair of the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority Board.
She is also now the vice chair of the Valley Metro Board of Directors, according to a release.
Valley Metro provides regional bus, streetcar, light rail and paratransit service to the Greater Phoenix Area. The organization began in 1985.
“Tempe has the highest transit ridership per capita in the Greater Phoenix Area,” Councilmember Adams said in the release. “Our involvement on these boards allows us to have a voice in decisions that affect our residents, students and workforce members who rely on this service. I’m proud to serve in leadership positions on these important boards.”
Tempe is the only city in the Greater Phoenix Area with streetcar, light rail, bus and circulator service. The city is working on a plan with Mesa and Valley Metro to expand the streetcar along Rio Salado Parkway, past Sloan Park to Dobson Road.
The Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority Board manages and operates regional bus service and alternative transportation programs for commuters, those with disabilities and seniors. The RPTA Board is comprised of elected officials from 18 municipalities and Maricopa County.
The Valley Metro Rail Board of Directors focuses on the planning and maintenance of light rail and high-capacity systems in the greater Phoenix area and is comprised of elected officials from Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa and Chandler to provide rail service policy direction.
