SRP water releases temporarily close Tempe Town Lake

Tempe Town Lake is temporarily closed to on-water recreation activities until further notice, city officials said Sunday.

Due to recent storms, Salt River Project  is releasing water from several reservoirs in the region.

"The dam at Tempe Town Lake is working as designed to let water flow through the lake, and the closure is out of an abundance of caution due to increased water flow and the potential for debris," Tempe officials stated in a release.

All on-water recreation activities, including paddle boating, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, rowing and sailing are paused. Staff will evaluate the lake daily and it will reopen once activities can resume safely, according to the city.

Parks surrounding the lake will remain open, and fishing is still allowed. Anyone with questions may contact Tempe 311 at 480-350-4311.
