Someburros Mexican opens at Junior Achievement BizTown

Posted

Local Mexican chain Someburros has opened its newest storefront in Tempe, but this time with no food, money or cooking tools.

CEO Tim Vasquez and other Someburro executives cut the ribbon Aug. 27 for a new era of Someburros that goes beyond the restaurant.

“Tempe is where it all started for us and it remains central to our identity as a locally rooted, family-owned business,” said Vasquez.

Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, Tempe Councilmember Berdetta Hodge and President of Tempe Elementary School board Allison Ewers joined the crowd to share their love for Tempe, BizTown and Someburros.

Woods said places like BizTown “watch over our young people” and shared his love for not only education, but burritos noting that he used to live near the chain’s first location on Mill and Baseline where he was a frequent customer.

Junior Achievement is an international organization dedicated to teaching students personal finance tools through interactive materials and real-life scenarios.  Students spend time in the classroom learning about business ventures and financial choices before taking a field trip to south Tempe where they spend over four hours of running a microeconomy with businesses that can be found across Tempe.

“Our family and team have always been committed to strengthening the communities we serve,” said Amy Vasquez, who oversees community relations at Someburros, in a statement.

Someburros was started in 1972 by George and Mary Vasquez under the name Poncho’s. Today, Tim Vasquez is a third-generation head of Someburros and works with a team to manage more than a dozen Valley locations, stretching from Carefree to Buckeye and San Tan Valley. Someburros is also in Sun Devil Stadium and other Arizona State University properties.

Teacher appreciation day is also Aug. 27 and teachers who show their badge can get 25% off their meal at any location.
