The Queen Creek Police Department has submitted charges against seven individuals in the Preston Lord homicide case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
“The Queen Creek Police Department can confirm charges were submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney against seven individuals. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the charges submitted,” according to a statement from QCPD Chief Randy Brice.
MCAO Public Information Officer Karla Navarrete-Contreras confirmed to the Queen Creek Independent that her office had received referrals for multiple people in the case, including adults and juveniles.
Navarrete-Contreras said MCAO will be reviewing the submittals and it can take “several avenues,” as with any other case, from filing charges to sending the case back to police for more information to turning down the case.
“There are a whole slew of things that can happen after the case is submitted to us,” she said, adding that she had no further details on the Lord submittals because it is still early in the process.
In the QCPD statement, Brice said that while “charges have been submitted, the investigation continues and the public is encouraged to submit any new tips to https://p3tips.com/952."
“I want to reiterate that our focus continues to be getting justice for Preston Lord,” Brice stated.
Lord, a 16-year-old student from Combs High School in Pinal County, was assaulted on Oct. 28 at a house party in Queen Creek. He died Oct. 30.
