Navy captain joins Mountain Pointe High School Hall of Fame

U.S. Navy Capt. Kurt Astroth will be inducted into the Mountain Pointe High School Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the high school on Sept. 11.

Astroth was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and is a 1999 graduate of Mountain Pointe, where he lettered in football, track and band, was recognized as a scholar-athlete and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society.

A percussionist in the school’s concert band throughout his four years at Mountain Pointe, Astroth also studied German and participated in the school’s German exchange program, including hosting three exchange students from Germany.

“One of the strongest lessons I carried with me from Mountain Pointe was the relationship between standards, opportunity and sacrifice,” Astroth said

Astroth joined the Navy 22 years ago. Today, Astroth serves at U.S. Fleet Forces Command, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia.

Astroth serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“When you are young, it is difficult to fully appreciate what that means. Over a career, sacrifice becomes time away from family, missed events and milestones, deployments, and accepting that you will not always have complete control over where you go or when you will return,” he said.

Astroth said the sacrifice is real, but so is the reward.

“For me, one of the greatest rewards of service has been the opportunity to lead and develop sailors, and to know that, for a period of time, I had the opportunity and responsibility to make a positive difference in their lives,” Astroth said.

The Mountain Pointe High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Mountain Pointe High School. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. in the gym lobby.

Hall of Fame inductees will also be recognized on the field at approximately 6:30 p.m., prior to the Mountain Pointe varsity football game.
