Tempe is working to recruit more landlords to expand affordable housing options for residents in housing voucher programs, as its new damage claim assistance program helps ensure that participating rental properties stay market-ready.
Through a $100,000 investment, Tempe wants to strengthen landlord partnerships and bolster its broad affordable housing strategy, a city release explained.
“Healthy communities have a diverse mix of housing options for residents and it’s important that we maximize available rental properties in Tempe while supporting our landlord partners,” Community Health and Human Services Director Tim Burch stated in the release. “By investing in the recruitment and retention of landlords, we’re investing in housing opportunity for all.”
Landlords with rental properties in Tempe are invited to learn more at the city’s Landlord Mixer on March 26, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Tempe History Museum, 809 E. Southern Ave. Here, landlords can network with the Tempe Housing Authority and learn about program updates and plans for 2024.
Those who participate in the federal Housing Choice Voucher program, through the THA, benefit in many ways, including support through the new Landlord Promise damage claim assistance program, the release detailed.
THA wants landlords to have an exceptional experience as they partner to provide affordable housing options for renters using housing vouchers, according to Burch.
With damage claim assistance, the THA promises to help keep participating rental homes market-ready, so landlords can focus on providing a place for Tempe renters to call home.
Qualified landlords can receive up to $2,500 per claim, per voucher tenant through the program. Find details at tempe.gov/landlords.
In addition to the Landlord Promise benefit, landlords participating in housing voucher programs can:
Maximize their rental properties by partnering with the city;
Benefit with stable and competitive rental payments; and
Enhance their rental business by working with the city’s Housing Navigator.
RSVP for the March 26 Landlord Mixer and get more details at tempe.gov/landlords. The first 25 landlords to register for and attend the mixer will receive a free Yeti mug and a leather-bound journal.
