Gilbert begins field verification phase of water meter audit

Posted

Gilbert has begun the field verification and testing phase of its independent audit of water meters and the town’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure system.

The audit is being conducted by Kimley‑Horn and Associates LLC, which the town selected in October 2025 to review meter accuracy, historical usage data, billing records and customer service logs.

Representatives from Kimley‑Horn, AMKA Services or M.E. Simpson may visit selected residential and commercial properties. Personnel will be identifiable by branded vests or uniforms and marked vehicles.

Testing includes removing and replacing a sample of meters for independent evaluation, as well as conducting radio transmission tests on additional meters to verify accurate data reporting.

Town staff will assist with meter removal, transfer for off‑site testing and installation of replacement meters when needed. Customers will not be charged for the work.

Property owners do not need to be present, but meters must be accessible for testing.

Once work is completed, customers will receive a door hanger noting the type of evaluation performed. Additional information and FAQs are available on the town’s website.

Residents with billing or usage questions may contact the town’s customer service team, while audit‑specific concerns may be directed to Kimley‑Horn.
