ASU Mullett Arena namesake Donald Mullett passes away

Donald Mullett, former CEO and chairman of global manufacturer Bradley Co., passed away April 8, leaving behind a local legacy with Arizona State University’s Mullett Arena.

Mullett passed away peacefully at his home in Wisconsin, surrounded by family, a media release stated. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara, and their three sons, Bryan, Erik and Christopher, along with their families. He was 81.

After starting his 55-year career with Bradley as a regional sales manager, Mullett served as CEO starting in 1980, assuming the role from his father, Howard G. Mullett, according to the release.

He also served as chairman of the board for 27 years and became vice chairman after appointing Bryan Mullett, his oldest son, as chairman in 2020. Under Mullett’s leadership, the company achieved consistent growth, expanding its reach to serve customers worldwide.

ASU announced in 2022 that its new on-campus multipurpose arena would be named Mullett Arena in recognition of Donald “Donze” and Barbara Mullett’s commitment to ASU and Sun Devil Athletics, according to an ASU report.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mullett is known for his philanthropic endeavors, the release stated. Inspired by his passion for hockey, he was instrumental in establishing the ASU Sun Devil NCAA Division 1 hockey program in 2014.

“As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his legacy,” Bryan Mullett stated in the release. “His influence on the industry, commitment to family and philanthropic efforts will continue to inspire generations to come.”

To honor Donald Mullett’s memory, the family suggests donations to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the release explained.
