Anticipated Tempe closures for César Chávez Day

In observance of César Chávez Day on March 31, the city of Tempe will close all administrative offices on April 1. 

César Chávez was an American labor leader and civil rights activist. Chávez led the first successful farm workers union in American history, achieving dignity, respect, fair wages, medical coverage, pension benefits and humane living conditions, as well as countless other rights and protections for hundreds of thousands of farm workers, a city release detailed.

Additionally, join the Tempe History Museum on March 29, at 6 p.m. for the opening of its new featured exhibit, "Extending a Hand: César Chávez an Arizona Connection." The event is free and family-friendly.

Emergency Services

Police and Fire services will be unaffected by the holiday.

Tempe 311

Tempe 311, the city’s Customer Relations Center, will be closed. To fill out a service request form, visit tempe.gov/311.

Tempe Customer Services

Tempe Customer Services will be closed. For information and to pay your bill online, visit tempe.gov/CustomerService.

Tempe Municipal Court

The court will be closed. To make a payment or view case information, visit tempe.gov/court. Phone payments can be made by calling 480-350-8800 or 1-877-729-2687.  This Automated Payment System is unavailable nightly from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Transportation

Bus and rail services will operate according to regular schedules. The Tempe Transit Store will be closed. Visit tempe.gov/TempeinMotion.

Trash and Recycling

Residential trash and recycling will be unaffected. The Household Products Collection Center, 1320 E. University Drive, will be closed. 

Parks and Recreation

  • Kiwanis Recreation Center, 6111 S. All-America Way, will be closed. The Kiwanis Tennis Center will also be closed. 
  • Kiwanis Park Batting Range will be closed.  
  • The Cloud at Kiwanis Park, Esquer Park Splash Pad, Parque de Soza Splash Pad, Jaycee Park Splash Pad, Escalante Pool and McClintock Pool are closed for the season. For information on Tempe aquatics, visit tempe.gov/pools.

Library and Cultural Centers

  • Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road, will be closed Sunday, March 31 and Monday, April 1.  
  • Tempe History Museum, 809 E. Southern Ave., will be closed.
  • Petersen House Museum, 1414 W. Southern Ave., will be closed. Visit www.tempe.gov/museumhistorichouses for information.
  • Edna Vihel Arts Center, 3340 S. Rural Road, will be closed.
  • Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, will be closed. Visit tempecenterforthearts.com for information. 

Community Centers

  • Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E. Southern Ave., will be closed.
  • Clark Park Community Center and Pool, 1730 S. Roosevelt St., will be closed.
  • Cahill Senior Center, 715 W. Fifth St., will be closed. 
  • Escalante Community Center, 2150 E. Orange St., will be open for regular hours, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • North Tempe Multi-Generational Center, 1555 N. Bridalwreath St., will be open for regular hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Westside Multi-Generational Center, 715 W. Fifth St., will be open for regular hours, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
