A single-story house built in the 1960s is to be demolished and replaced with a new three-story, single-family house with balconies in the Jen Tilly Terrace subdivision southwest of Spence Avenue and Bonarden Lane in Tempe.
The Tempe Development Review Commission voted 5-2 Aug. 11 to approve a use permit for the building at 1408 S. Bonarden Lane, adding a condition to remove a planned west-facing balcony and shrink the size of a planned east-facing balcony. Commissioners Robert Miller and Kendon Jung dissented
Prior to the vote, Commission Chairman Andrew Johnson asked what the traffic would be in the area if every one-story home changed to a three-story home.
