The National Weather Service on Friday updated its extereme heat warning for Maricopa and Pinal counties, extending the chance for 121-degree temperatures through Monday.
The initial warning was set to expire on Sunday, Aug. 2.
Those at higher risk during warnings include:
• Age-Related Sensitivities: Adults older than 65, infants and young children whose bodies cannot regulate internal temperatures efficiently.
• Pregnancy: Pregnant individuals, as heat places extra strain on both the body and cardiovascular system.
• Chronic Health Conditions: People living with heart disease, diabetes, kidney issues or respiratory and breathing problems.
• Medication Interactions: Anyone taking prescription or over-the-counter medications that reduce the body's ability to sweat, cause sun sensitivity or affect fluid balance.
• Environmental Exposure: Outdoor workers, athletes or anyone lacking consistent, reliable access to working air conditioning at home.
