The city of Surprise has put out a call for artists for a pair of upcoming projects.

West Valley chalk art muralists are needed to develop a unique, nature-focused sidewalk chalk art mural for the inaugural Roots of Creation: Arts and Nature Festival on Jan. 24.

Artists must live west of I-17. The stipend is $200 and the deadline for entries is Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The city also needs Surprise-based student art clubs and/or science clubs to create free-standing sculptures created from recycled materials. Applications need to be in by Sunday, Oct. 19.

Clubs and projects must be located and completed within Surprise’s city limits. Clubs must identify an adult lead coordinator for the project that could be a teacher, artist or club organizer.

The stipend for that project is $500.
