Two Surprise men Believe in the weird in new book

Pair featured in Ripley's latest edition

Benji Williams first became enamored with large rubber band balls at age 6 when he visited the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum to see what was then the largest one. Now, the Surprise resident wants to make the biggest one.

“We have a picture of him on a rubber band ball that is not anywhere near impressive as the work that he’s doing now,” said Suzanne Smagala, senior manager of marketing and communications of Ripley’s. “We’ve had a really long relationship with him. We’ve just kind of kept in touch throughout the years, and he reached out to us, saying, ‘Hey, I’m still at it.’”

Williams’ attempt at a rubber band ball that will weight 22,000 pound is just one story of about 700 told in the latest edition of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Wired Into Weird,” the 23rd annual edition of Ripley’s signature book.
