A new public art piece featuring the soul-searching works of Tiesha Harrison is installed at Asante Library, 16755 W. Vereda Solana Drive in Surprise.

A story-telling visual artist, based in Phoenix, the Arizona native collaborated with the community and Surprise Arts to present her “bold art” and experiences for what is described as real stories.

She has a story of her own to share through her own experience that inspired the Sunflower Soul Project, which she founded as a “trauma-informed care initiative that uses art as a means of promoting healing, self-expression and well-being,” according to published reports.

A new public art piece featuring the soul-searching works of Tiesha Harrison is installed at Asante Library, 16755 W. Vereda Solana Drive in Surprise.

A story-telling visual artist, based in Phoenix, the Arizona native collaborated with the community and Surprise Arts to present her “bold art” and experiences for what is described as real stories.

She has a story of her own to share through her own experience that inspired the Sunflower Soul Project, which she founded as a “trauma-informed care initiative that uses art as a means of promoting healing, self-expression and well-being,” according to published reports.

Her mission is to provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore themselves through creative expression by mixing art, storytelling, and community building.

“I create work about healing, culture and human emotion through mixed media portraits and vibrant contemporary abstract art. My art is describe as intuitive, fearless and bold that moves people to feel deeply,” stated Harrison in a release.

The Sunflower Soul Project, a healing arts initiative is dedicated to using art to support the mental and emotional well-being of families affected by violence, while offering spiritual healing to aid individuals in self-awareness through creativity, sharing stories, and engaging in a therapeutic process on their healing journey.

“We aim to create a positive impact on the lives of those who connect with their art, uplift and empower individuals to overcome adversity while building resilience,” noted Harrison, who uses her expertise to help communities heal from trauma through the power of art.

Harrison has committed to advocacy and education as a dedication to the memory of her sister, Delores, who was “tragically lost to gun violence,” according to information on her her Instagram page. The Arizona State University graduate holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, focusing on family studies and business.

She also completed the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program and is a graduate of The Collective Creative Leadership program at Mesa Arts Center, as well as the Women’s Leadership Development Forum. Her work was formally recognized by the Arizona House of Representatives, highlighting her impact, art and leadership.

Among other notable achievements, she has helped lead and support important community initiatives, such as a healing art project involving 27 families and survivors of domestic violence.
