A local career and technical education public school district wants to fill open spots for high-opportunity programs for the 2025-26 school year.

Western Maricopa Education Center campuses throughout the West Valley, including the Northwest Campus in Surprise, are offering the programs that focus on industries that have a low supply of skilled workers but a high demand from employers.

The Surprise campus is looking for students for the following programs:

• IT security focuses on the foundational principles of securing computer networks and managing risk while training students on managing networks, ethical hacking defense, troubleshooting Linux OS and mitigating security risks.

• Law and public safety offers training in basic skills used in patrol functions, defensive tactics, use of force and first aid. Students will learn constitutional law, forensic science, first aid / CPR and more.

• Powersports technology prepares students with technical skills to service, maintain and diagnose powersport vehicles, such as Motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, utility terrain vehicles and personal watercraft.

In addition to Surprise’s campus, programs are open at all four of West-MEC’s central locations: the Central Campus in Glendale, the Northeast Campus in Phoenix and the Southwest Campus in Buckeye.

West-MEC specializes in providing career training programs to support over 45,000 students in their career pathways.
