Surprise to start pavement preservation work on Bell Road

Posted

Surprise drivers can anticipate nighttime lane restrictions while the city performs pavement preservation activities on Bell Road from Parkview Place to the Grand Avenue bridge.

The schedule is as follows, weather permitting:

  • Aug. 22 to 27 – Crack sealing: a hot applied treatment made to prevent moisture and debris from entering cracks in the pavement.
  • Sept. 3 to 5 – Obliteration of pavement markings: removal of all existing or temporary pavement markings.
  • Sept. 5 to 8 – Micro slurry: a thin asphalt overlay and seal coat that fills in minor gaps and surface flaws, extending the life of the roadway. It seals the pavement, preventing water infiltration, which is the leading cause of pavement degradation.
  • Sept. 9 – Striping: striping will be added to the asphalt.

All work will be completed between  9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Restrictions will move as work progresses. Two lanes of travel will be maintained.
