The 19th Annual Happy Trails Pickleball Classic is returning Jan. 13 through 17 to the Happy Trails Resort in Surprise.
Known as one of the longest-running pickleball tournaments in the country, the tournament combines high-energy competition, hospitality and community spirit.
Registration is now open, and spots are filling fast for the tournament on the Cascade Pickleball Courts at 17200 W. Bell Road.
In 2001, pickleball was introduced to the Arizona Senior Olympics through the efforts of Earl Hill. Held at Happy Trails Resort, the first tournament drew 100 players, making it the largest event in pickleball history at that time.
Over the next three years, participation grew to nearly 300 players, paving the way for the Happy Trails Pickleball Classic as we know it today.
“This year, we’ve expanded our events to reflect the growing love for pickleball across all ages and skill levels,” Tournament Director Doug Smook said. “The Happy Trails Classic is about more than just winning. It’s about being part of the sport’s incredible legacy.”
This year’s tournament offers 50-and-over, skill/age and USAP Sanctioned matches with all games refereed to ensure an unparalleled experience.
Registration closes on Jan. 1. The entry fee is $85, plus $5 per event by Pickleball Brackets. Players are guaranteed three games per event.
Divisions are Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles (50-59, 60-69, 70+)
Players can enjoy enhanced hospitality this year, including a fully stocked hospitality suite sponsored by Jeff Hertig/Edward Jones.
