The Surprise City Council agreed to a wired telecommunications license and right-of-way use agreement with Crown Castle Fiber, a national telecommunications infrastructure provider.
The council approved the deal Sept. 1 to allow Crown Castle to install about 20 miles of aerial and underground fiber optic cables in the city’s rights of way for one of its customers.
In return the city will receive an annual linear foot fee, permit and review fees, violation fees, damage fees and a transaction privilege tax where applicable.
Crown Castle currently operates 40,000 cell towers, approximately 70,000 small cells and approximately 80,000 miles of fiber in the U.S.
