Surprise opponents of BNSF rail hub plans get more time to organize

County supervisors agree to push back decision on BNSF

Burlington Northern Santa Fe seemed to be on a fast track for its massive intermodal hub to be built in Wittmann.

But plans have not left the railroad yard yet as Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved the train company’s request to stall decisions for needed land use amendments at the chosen site located north of U.S. 60 between 211th and 235th avenues in the Wittmann area.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to reschedule the BNSF Intermodal comprehensive plan amendment for Nov. 5.
