The Surprise Police Department has cleared the police officer who was suspended for an “anomaly” in the use of Flock Safety camera system, which preceded the city canceling the program.
Police said Wednesday the abnormality was caused when the officer accessed the Flock data through a web browser bookmark. Because the bookmark was used each time to access the system and it was attached to a particular vehicle, it appeared the officer was repeatedly tracking the same vehicle.
“When we found an anomaly in our audit, we immediately let the community know about it,” Surprise Police Chief Evan Becher said in a news release. “I am thankful to report that there was no evidence of misuse. I appreciate the officer’s professionalism throughout the investigative process, as well as his commitment to serving our city.”
