Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor - June 2025 Newsletter

Posted

Neighbors! April was a busy month with my first State of the City (SOTC). I highlighted our commitment to fostering connections, supporting public safety, transportation and enhancing our community experience for the betterment of our community.  If you missed it, please check out the SOTC webpage to learn more or to watch the event video.

In early May, the Council and I approved the tentative Fiscal Year 2026 Budget, which reflects our commitment to safe communities with streets that are designed and managed to help traffic flow, and funding towards increasing public safety staffing, infrastructure and roads. The tentative budget also incorporates a five-year Capital Improvement Program that includes the continuation of the 2023 voter approved General Obligation (GO) Bond for transportation and public safety projects. Bond projects identified in the FY2026 tentative budget include a police substation, design of future public safety facilities and several transportation projects. The City has also dedicated funding for pavement preservation and vehicle replacement to maintain the City’s existing infrastructure and equipment.

During the June 17 City Council meeting the Council adopted the revised Strategic Plan and the Final Budget which go into effect July 1, 2025. The Council recesses in July and City Council meetings will resume in August. Council meetings are always open to the public and are carried live on COX Channel 11 and online at surpriseaz.gov/SurpriseTV.
