Surprise resident David Murray recently joined the executive team of Catholic Charities Community Services as the organization’s new vice president of finance.

Murray is a finance and organizational development expert, with diverse experience in both for-profit and nonprofit entities in the areas of higher education, ministry, banking and small business consulting.

During his career, he has been instrumental in transforming operating structures to improve strategic outcomes, stakeholder value, financial health, and employee morale.

Prior to joining Catholic Charities, Murray held several positions at Zambia’s Northrise University and Northrise University Initiative, with his most recent post as the deputy vice chancellor and provost of the school, where he was responsible for oversight of all academic areas and financial management.

Before this, he was the executive pastor and chief operating officer at NPHX Church. Murray has nearly two decades of additional financial management experience, with most of that time spent in areas of increasing responsibility at JPMorgan Chase and its predecessors. Murray also served in the U.S. Air Force.

“We are so delighted to welcome Dr. Murray to Catholic Charities Community Services,” said Paul Mulligan, Catholic Charities community services president and CEO. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in nonprofit financial management and has a great passion for the organization’s mission.”

Murray earned a doctor of education in organizational leadership from Grand Canyon University, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and a bachelor of science in accounting from Arizona State University.

He is a certified public accountant and certified global management accountant. He has been a member of and chaired various nonprofit boards over the past 20 years.
