The Surprise Fire-Medical Department recently received its second five-year accreditation with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

This accreditation is based on the department’s continuous quality improvement and enhancement of service delivery to the community.

“This significant achievement was earned by meeting the rigorous standards of the CFAI and reflects the SFMD’s dedication to exceptional service and the support of city leadership,” city officials wrote in a news release.

During the accreditation process, the CFAI provides a voluntary improvement model to assess an agency’s service delivery and internal performance. Then, a team of peers from other agencies come to evaluate the department’s completed self-assessment.

Surprise Fire-Medical is one of more than 250 agencies that have achieved Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc.
