Surprise authors now have gathering spot

WHAM Art Center has started hosting writers' group once a month

The WHAM Art Center has launched a new monthly program called the Authors’ Circle where authors, aspiring writers and curious community members 16 and older can share their work, exchange ideas and receive constructive feedback.

The group meets from 2 to 4 p.m. every third Sunday of the month at the WHAM Art Center, 16560 N. Dysart Road.

WHAM Executive Director Connie Whitlock said the Authors’ Circle is part of the group expanding its Literary Arts Department over the past few years. It is expected to build on the success of September’s “Walking Through Words” exhibition, which featured the books and artwork of 38 local and regional authors.

“Our goal is to create a welcoming space where writers can connect, be inspired and grow,” Whitlock said. “The ‘Walking Through Words’ exhibit highlighted how beautifully visual and written art can come together — and the Authors’ Circle continues that spirit.”

WHAM’s Chris Taylor, an author and regular performer at WHAM’s monthly open mics, will initially facilitate the event.

“The opportunity for authors to get feedback on their work is invaluable,” Taylor said. “The insights I’ve gained from other writers have made me a stronger writer, and I’m excited to help others experience that same growth.”

There is a suggested donation of $10 to help offset program costs.
