Pop Art is focus of Surprise exhibit

Arts HQ to get immersive with free viewings until March 27

The West Valley Arts Council is presenting “Fantasma: Pop Art Exhibit,” a new exhibition at the Arts HQ Gallery from Feb. 21 through March 27.

This collection showcases works inspired by pop culture, mass media and the ever-evolving world of fandom art. The exhibit explores the intersection of pop art, fan art and visual storytelling, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in bold colors, familiar icons and artistic nostalgia.

Rooted in the traditions of Pop Art, which emerged in the 1950s as a response to consumer culture, Fantasma captures the movement’s bold aesthetic while incorporating modern influences such as comic book heroes, anime and celebrity culture.

The exhibit title “Fantasma” plays on the word “fan” — acknowledging the deep connection enthusiasts have with pop culture — while also invoking a sense of the theatrical, whimsical and surreal.

Featured artists explore themes of advertising, nostalgia and media influence, creating a visual spectacle that resonates with art lovers, pop culture enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

The exhibit can be viewed for free at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Suite 102, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Celebrate the launch of “Fantasma” with a special opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 21.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists, explore the exhibit and engage in a discussion about the influence of pop art in today’s cultural landscape.

To add to the fun, attendees are encouraged to dress in cosplay, embracing the vibrant energy of pop culture and fandom that inspires the exhibit.

Whether attendees channel their favorite comic book hero, anime character or nostalgic pop icon, they should show off creativity and be part of the immersive experience.
