There is not a true turning point in a 44-0 football game.
If there were, Friday night's pivotal play in the annual Battle of Surprise was a second quarter fourth and goal stop of Willow Canyon by Valley Vista with the Monsoon leading 6-0.
Two plays later, junior quarterback Damir Illcic hit junior Joseph Watts-Diver in stride on a skinny post for an 84-yard touchdown and the home team was off to the races. Illcic connected on several more deep shots, completing 18 passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns in the 44-0 rout.
