Letters: Surprise transplant not happy with high cost to live here
Since moving to Surprise almost three years ago, I have had to endure outrageous electric and gasoline bills.
I would like to hear from our legislators why exactly is it that we have these outrageous costs? Late last month, regular gas at Sam’s Club was about $3.05 a gallon. Ten days later, the price was $3.51 a gallon. It’s the same with other local stations except that their prices are roughly 15 cents higher than Sam’s.
Why the sudden increase? Snowbirds are starting to come back in September. Is that the reason?

Also, why are our prices significantly higher than the national average, which is going down and reportedly the lowest now in 10 years?
Electricity costs are totally ridiculous. Why is electricity so much more costly per kilowatt hour than most everywhere else in the USA?
A bigger question is why exactly is approximately one-third of our monthly bill payable to taxes and fees, most of which are unexplainable? Is this government bureaucracy at its best?
We would be so much better with an electric co-op where users are the owners, and the government bureaucrats stay out of it.
By the way, look at Winco. It’s employee-owned, very efficient and typically lower cost than even Walmart.
I’m not at all impressed with this state. I’m only here because I needed to bring my ailing wife here for care.
