One-time Broadway performer and storyteller Penny Orloff is bringing her solo show, “Songs and Stories from a Not-Quite-Kosher Life,” to the WHAM Art Center to start the new year.

The intimate, one-night-only performance blends heirloom melodies, personal storytelling and humorous reflections on Orloff’s Jewish immigrant family and colorful life in show business.

It is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 16560 N. Dysart Road.

Tickets are $25 at Eventbrite.com or in person at WHAM during regular gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Seating is limited, and advance ticket purchases are encouraged.

The venue is wheelchair accessible and offers free parking. Light refreshments will be available.

With warmth, wit and musical elegance, Orloff plans an evening that is by turns heartfelt, hilarious, and deeply human — offering a rare opportunity to experience her storytelling and musical artistry up close.

Orloff began her professional career as an actor and dancer in Los Angeles before earning a Juilliard scholarship that brought her to New York. She went on to perform featured roles on Broadway and sing more than 20 principal soprano roles with the New York City Opera.

Over a career spanning more than 50 years, Orloff has appeared in more than 100 productions off-Broadway, regionally and internationally.

Her first solo show, “Jewish Thighs” on Broadway — based on her best-selling novel of the same name — toured the U.S. for a decade and included a successful off-Broadway run in 2005.

WHAM Art Association is a community-oriented nonprofit organization that brings the arts to all ages, races, abilities and economic backgrounds throughout the West Valley.
