3 Surprise employee dependents earn city-funded scholarships

City awards college financial aid to kids of its workers

Claire Avalos, a student at George Washington University, earned the second-place award and $3,000 gift through the Surprise employee dependent scholarship program.

Finn Bush, a student at New Mexico State University, earned the third-place award and $2,000 gift through the Surprise employee dependent scholarship program.

The dependents of three city of Surprise workers are getting a financial boost for their college studies from the city.

Emma Hudson, Claire Avalos and Finn Bush, all children of Surprise employees, were awarded employee dependent scholarship awards last month.

Hudson, a student at Grand Canyon University, earned the first-place award and $5,000 gift. The nursing student who graduated from Canyon View High School in Buckeye wants to be a labor and delivery nurse for a career.
