Sun City West club collects shoes for pantry

The Sun City West Tennis Club has joined forces with the HART (Helping At Risk Teens) Pantry to recycle old sneakers, which in turn provides HART with funding.
HART receives $1 for each pair of recycled shoes. HART began in 2011 as a mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria. It provides weekend food bags to West Valley teens who don’t have enough food to eat when they are not in school on weekends. The effort is part of Gotsneakers?, a nationwide sneaker recycling organization (visit gotsneakers.com).
There are containers at the Sun City West tennis courts, by the dog parks on lower level. Those who can’t make it to the tennis courts can call 402-850-6639 to arrange for a pick up. Sun City West clubs interested in helping can call 402-212-4188.
