Sun City art club paints Independent Newsmedia racks

Posted

The Sun City Artists by the Lake Club at Lakeview Recreation Center recently painted four Daily Independent racks for Independent Newsmedia. These set of news racks are the second wave of racks to be painted by a Sun City club. Artists by the Lake Club President Deb Dahlin, along with members Jo Peterson and Josh Thompson participated in this project.

A close up featuring native birds painted by Artists by the Lake Club member Jo Peterson is pictured on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Lakeview Recreation Center.

The project came together when Independent Newsmedia Circulation Manager Terri Rodgers contacted Artists by the Lake Vice President Peggy Juneau, who worked on the first set of painted news racks, and asked if the club wanted to work on another group of racks.

Ms. Rodgers said the project is really special to the Daily Independent by bringing life to the ordinary news racks placed around the Valley. “It puts the beauty from the local people on the streets of Sun City,” said Ms. Rodgers.

President Deb Dahlin painted two racks, one highlighting the beauty of scenic Arizona. Ms. Dahlin, received her idea for the racks from her recent trip up north. “My inspiration for them was we had just been up in Sedona to paint for four days so we had been in the midst of red rock,” said Ms. Dahlin.

Ms. Peterson, who painted a sunset landscape featuring native wildlife on her news rack said they had fun with this unique project. “Most of us are doing stuff on flat surfaces on paper or canvas and this was fun to do something different,” said Ms. Peterson.

The Daily Independent racks painted by the group will be placed at several locations throughout Sun City.
