Richards: Resident finds proposed raise outrageous

Posted

The proposed 5.63% increase in the annual owner member dues is outrageous.

After a full two years of shutdowns, pandemic mandates and massive unemployment an increase of this amount is disturbing. Social Security recipients received a 5.88% increase in 2022, additionally the monthly Medicare deduction increased by 14.5%, which effectively eradicated any ability to offset the proposed membership dues increase.

The dual guest fee structure for adults and 16-18-year-olds is unfair and should be eliminated for that age group. All 16-18-year-old guests are permitted to use most, if not all, facility activities completely unaccompanied after obtaining a guest pass. That age group is now able to apply for certain employment opportunities as well, yet are considered and charged as children when guests but as adults for all other purposes. Anyone old enough to use the facilities unaccompanied and obtain certain employment should be charged as an adult

I sent an email to the president and vice president of the Recreation Centers of Sun City West Board of Directors and a copy to the general manager expressing my concerns and my email was blocked from the president’s account. Guess she does not care about the residents and their concerns and input. It’s not only difficult but virtually impossible for a home owner member to provide input about major undertakings and finance through the board of directors, and the general manager is not a part of the board.

Another increase in member dues despite a fiscal year end budget surplus.
