The weekly updates on 103.1 FM KSCW Rec Center Show with host Gary Cohen provided the Sun City West community with news of yet more cancellations due to COVID-19.
Recreation Centers of Sun City West Facilities Manager Russ Boston said association officials canceled just about everything through 2020, saying crowd control is hard in facilities on a day-to-day basis and that makes it hard to imagine how to host an event.
RCSCW General Manager Bill Schwind said the association has been notified by several larger groups involved in fall activities and even spring 2021 cancellations were taking place.
Association officials made the cancellation announcement via an Aug. 24 press release, stating, “Although Arizona’s statistics regarding COVID has been trending in an encouraging direction, RCSCW’s Special Events staff had to make decisions now regarding entertainment and down payments for the fall season. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey still has a statewide mandate in order prohibiting gatherings of more than 50 people, even with physical distancing.”
The following events have been canceled:
Fall Fest (Nov. 4, Sixtiesmania and Nov. 6 HIFI). This event will not be rescheduled and refunds will be issued.
Concerts in the Park (Oct.3, Faded Jeans Oct. 10, Rhythm Edition, Oct. 17 Johnny K & Kompany).
Movies in the Park (Oct. 4, Jo Jo Rabbit, Oct. 11 Midway, Oct. 18 Knives Out).
Halloween Dance (Oct. 30, Thaddeus Rose).
Holiday Show (Dec. 9, Gothard Sisters).
New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31, Faded Jeans).
The November’s Fall Arts and Crafts Fair and the Friends of the Library Book Sale have also been canceled.
The Curbside Christmas event has not been canceled and is proceeding as planned.
Looking ahead, Mr. Schwind said 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 the RCSCW governing board will host a workshop where an educational piece will be presented to the community on what membership dues actually go to.
