Northwest Valley Connect, a nonprofit that serves nearby residents who need transportation assistance, is seeking additional volunteers to help the cause.
A joint venture between Benevilla and Sun Health, NVC has grown rapidly since it started in 2015, when it provided 255 rides. In 2019, that number jumped to 17,000 rides. The service allows residents to visit facilities, pick up food and medicine, shop and visit others.
During the pandemic, NVC has also coordinated COVID-19 vaccination appointments with Walgreens. The organization’s staff and volunteers have helped many vulnerable people over the age of 65, have disabilities and veterans without access to transportation get round trips to and from their homes to their inoculations.
With pandemic restrictions lessening, NVC is offering group trips once again. The nonprofit recently conducted group trips to Wickenburg for a nominal fee and provided door-to-door service.
A return to normalcy means NVC is receiving an increasing number of requests for services and in need of more volunteers. Its greatest need is for drivers, though call center operators are also needed. Drivers may operate NVC’s vehicles or their own. Mileage will be reimbursed.
