Meet Sun City West Mac-Cro-Knitter Shelly Lemieur

Posted

Shelly Lemieur has been a member of Mac-Cro-Knit for about seven years and her love of crochet began when her grandmother taught her how to stitch. Lemieur said she thinks her grandmother was hoping it would keep her out of trouble. Her grandmother made beautiful things, inspiring Lemieur to enjoy the creativity and possibilities of working with yarn. One of Shelly’s favorite projects is making baby blankets for the hospital here in Sun City West. She loves choosing from the many pretty yarn colors and patterns to create something special. Lemieur said it allows her to use her creative side while knowing that “someone will feel warm and loved.” She contributes to the club in many ways beyond her own crocheting. She receives and sorts through yarn donations, helping ensure the yarn is ready for members to use in projects that are donated to various charities. She also puts together yarn baskets for club raffles and coordinates yarn sales, helping support the club and its activities. “Mac-Cro-Knit is such a fun club, and you can make lots of friends and exchange ideas and learn new things,” said Lemieur. Mac-Cro-Knit meets 8-11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, at the Kuentz Recreation Center in the Pueblo Room, 14401 R.H. Johnson Blvd.  Call president Connie Ottemann at 402-499-1681.
