Maricopa Association of Governments seeks Sun Cities resident feedback

Sun City and Sun City West residents have the opportunity to make their voices heard in a new survey regarding the future of transportation in the area.

The Sun Cities on the Move project is sponsored by the Maricopa Association of Governments, a regional agency that plans and studies transportation, and conducted in partnership with transit authority Valley Metro and with Maricopa County.

The process began after the Arizona State Legislature voted in 2023 to fund a study of transportation options that would work in the Sun City area.

MAG representatives overseeing the study say they are seeking any and all ideas as part of the process, to research what will really work to meet the actual needs of the community.

They listed the primary goals of the study:

  • Identify transportation needs and challenges for Sun City and Sun City West residents.
  • Consider that shopping is largely located outside of the communities and medical services are located on the edge.
  • Explore transportation options to meet the unique needs of older adults and people with disabilities in the forefront.
  • Enhance mobility and address safety issues.

For the first stage of the study, the goal is to understand how residents move around today and how they’d like to move around in the future. These insights will help shape a transportation solution that reflects the real needs of Sun City and Sun City West residents.

Take the survey, which will be live until Dec. 12, at surveymonkey.com/r/SunCities
