Keeping the record straight on Sun City West golf courses

Posted

After reading recent opinions on Sun City West golf courses, I researched the Assessor’s Office website and found there is no covenant or deed restriction or attachment to restrict the sale of the golf courses.

If someone paid an extra $50,000 to live on a golf course, that view can disappear if the Recreation Centers of Sun City West board decides to sell off the golf course. If someone has a friend in the title company business, have them look as well and let us all know where we can find this mysterious protection. Who provided this information, and do they have a screen print of this guarantee?

RCSCW golf courses use 50% of every dollar/FTE that is employed or dollars that pour through this association. The courses lose millions of dollars every year. They do not pay for themselves. Green fees do not cover the expenses. Consequently, if the courses are privatized, half of our salary, equipment and supplies expenses are eliminated.

Installing solar as you would on your home comes with an upfront expense; however, the day the solar is completed it begins to generate electricity and offset our million-dollar electric bill, unlike the $5 million to $8.5 million we spent on two golf courses that will lose money every day they operate.

The solar payback on a home is around five to six years. How many years will it take us to get our installation dollars back from any solar installed? Let us do the research and get an estimate as it is a way better idea than pouring money down the golf course hole.

The board needs to create a new policy to limit yearly increases of our annual dues to no more than a 3% maximum or tied to the CPI-W that is used to determine Social Security Increases each year.
