Free class educates residents to keep individuals safe

AFMA official provides resources, equipment to improve safety

Community education is important to Arizona Fire & Medical Authority and Sun City West Foundation officials, who partner to provide free classes to provide resources and safety information to help residents.

Arizona Fire & Medical Authority Dep. Fire Marshal Al Velasquez said the most recent class featured lithium battery safety. But high on the list of calls the fire department receives is for falls. According to Velasquez, 30% of the calls that come in are fall related.

“We are trying to prevent people from a fall whether it is medical related or due to an accident,” he said.
