Active lives, daily routines: how Sun City West senior community keeps moving

Posted

Staying active is a key part of daily life for residents of Sun City West Assisted Living. The community has developed a strong wellness program designed to keep seniors moving, healthy and engaged. With daily fitness classes, recreational activities and outings, both the needs of assisted living and memory care residents are routinely met.

Each morning, residents participate in fitness classes, including stretching, exercise and weight training. Experienced professionals lead these classes from EmpowerMe Wellness, and they’re designed to improve strength, flexibility and overall well-being.

In addition to daily exercise, the community also offers a variety of other activities to keep residents engaged. The calendar includes group walks, chair exercises and sports activities like billiards, cornhole and axe throwing. Residents also take trips to the Beardsley Recreation Center for pool time and to the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center for additional activities.

“We know how important it is for our residents to stay active, and we want to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible,” says Dawn Miller, executive director of Sun City West Assisted Living, 13810 W. Sandridge Drive. “By offering a range of activities and fitness options, we’re helping our residents take charge of their health every day.”
