Who’s Who in the Camera Guild: Rose Evander

Posted

Rose Evander was born in 1949, in San Francisco to Filipino parents. Her father was a rigger in the United States Navy during World War II and her mother was a nurse. Ms. Evander is an identical twin and as a child, she loved ocean fishing, large family gatherings, music and the arts.

She attended San Francisco State in the late 1960s and did so well as an artist and floral arranger that in the 1970s and ‘80s, she became a teacher of Chinese Ming Tree and floral arrangement at Santa Rose’s City College. She was awarded first place in the Sonoma County Fair for Ming Tree sculptures.

When she moved to Sun City in 2005, she started developing her photography skills with the Camera Guild. Using her previous art experience, she started to specialize in still life and the photography of all things small. Since 2010, she has been the club’s main instructor for still-life and has received awards for her unique perspective and storytelling through the camera’s lens. She also heads the hospitality chair and provides items for club functions.
