Mark Kisala and his team coordinated the 1-pitch tournament Feb. 11 that kicked off the Sun City Softball Club’s schedule of 2023 tournaments.

In addition to the competition on the field, the food, including hot dogs, was popular with spectators and players alike. Mary and Tommy Dellopoulus coordinated the food and beverages. In addition, Connie Braddock, who always wanted to be a firefighter, used a brush and the fire hose to make sure the bleachers were clean.

Tait Douglas celebrated his 95th birthday with the softball enthusiasts. Douglas began play with Sun City softball in 1990 and continued play until he was 92. Visitors to the field, behind the Sun Bowl at 10220 N. 107th Ave., can always find Douglas rooting on his softball buddies in the stands.

Stabilizer Solutions showed up Feb. 8 and added 25 tons of Hill Topper Solutions to the field. The pitching mound was lowered 2.5 inches and now the field is level.

All the leagues are going strong and very competitive. The coed league had the first games Feb. 10. The next open game day is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. If there is enough interest, they can be leagues games or just pick-up games.

The softball club’s “Angels in the Outfield” will conduct a food drive that will benefit Valley View Community Food Bank, 10771 W. Peoria Ave.

Weekly tryouts are conducted 1 p.m. Mondays. Contact Ricky Toland for Green Team at 509-264-3088 to be placed on a team of the appropriate level of play.
