The Bell Stitchers, a volunteer sewing club based at the Bell Recreation Center, is dedicated to creating handmade items for those in need. The group regularly donates to local nursing homes, Hospice of the Valley, veterans, the Navajo Nation, Foster Children Choices, Delivering Dreams and area elementary schools.
Recently, one of the club’s lifetime members, Emily Dorazio, who celebrated her 105th birthday in April, was brought by her daughter, Bernadette. Dorazio was a very active member who sewed many children’s clothes and crocheted and knitted other items.
The club also sells many items are on display in the room. Most popular items available are bowl cozies, scrubbies, hanging towels and aprons. Members are starting to make jelly roll placemats and have them on display.
