Sun City Senior Expo brings together residents, doctors and more

Posted

Another successful Independent Newsmedia Sun City Senior Expo is in the books after hundreds of residents took in valuable information at the Sundial Recreation Center, 14801 N. 103rd Ave., Sept. 23.

Joan Martin, a Sun City resident, said she attended the event because she isn’t satisfied with her current doctor. So, she wanted to see if a local doctor had a table and, sure enough, she found one she thought was “real friendly.”

“I really paid a lot of attention to him,” Martin said. “He was really, really good.”

She also brought her dog, Furby, to the expo.

“We wanted to bring our dog and his little carriage,” she said. “He gets lots of attention and he loves attention, so we wanted to take him someplace.”

She also enjoyed the performances from both the Sun City Poms and the Razzle Dazzle Dancers.

Orlando Cruz, with Arizona Heart Specialist, was a vendor at the expo. He is working with a group of doctors to get some “face-to-face” with the community.

“This is the first time that an agency can bring a big group of doctors, because doctors are scarce,” Cruz said. “To get a doctor, a cardiologist and primary care to be at the expo to let the population over here in Sun City know that they have a new practice that they’re developing.”

He added attendees were surprised that an agency can bring doctors to an event like this one.

“The first thing that they look for is do the doctors have a personality and can they actually see primary doctors or physician assistant,” he said.

Both Cruz and Martin thought the event was worth it and would attend future expos.

In addition to the information, Independent Newsmedia held a raffle for a basket valued at roughly $150. The basket included a bottle of wine, blankets and a candle, among other items.

Nancy Russell, who is in the process of moving to Sun City from Ohio, took home the big prize.

“I enjoyed looking at everything, especially this wonderful beautiful basket,” she said. “I didn’t think I would win, but I thought I would really want to win and I did.”

She attended the event because she wanted to meet some of her neighbors and a few advertisers in the area.

The next Independent Newsmedia Senior Expo is 9 a.m.–noon Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Sun City West Foundation Facility, 14465 R.H. Johnson Blvd.
